The RØDE VideoMic NTG is a portable shotgun mic that can be used as video microphone, to record audio on location, or to improve the audio on your Zoom/Teams calls. The TSG has supplied this microphone as part of a video conferencing kit for the BSI during the Covid pandemic.

==Features==
===High-pass filter===
The VideoMic NTG has an internal high-pass (low cut) filter with cutoffs at 75Hz or 150Hz. It can also be turned off completely.

===Pad===
A -20dB pad can be enabled when recording very loud noises. You can check the peak warning light (above the power/function button) to see if the signal is clipping (it will flash red), and turn on the pad if that's the case.

===Safety Channel===
With safety channel enabled, the microphone will reduce the gain on its second channel. If the signal clips on the first channel, it may still be salvageable on the second channel.

===USB DAC===
When connected to a computer or phone via USB, the microphone turns into an audio interface, meaning you can plug your headphones into the 3.5mm jack port. This makes it easier to monitor your microphone volume.

==Usage==
===On-Camera===
# Slide the VideoMic NTG into a camera's shoe mount. Turn the thumbscrew to tighten it in place.
# Plug the microphone into the camera using the included 3.5mm jack cable.
# Turn on the microphone by pressing the power button.
# Adjust the microphone gain by turning the volume knob.

The microphone has an internal battery. Remember to charge it before each use.

===Computer/Smartphone===
# Screw the VideoMic NTG onto a stand.
# Connect the microphone to your computer or phone with the included USB cable.
# Turn on the microphone by pressing the power button.
# Point the microphone towards the sound you wish to record.
# [Optional] Plug your headphones into the microphone's 3.5mm jack output port.

When the microphone is connected like this, the volume knob controls the headphone volume, not the microphone gain!

===Controls===
The VideoMic NTG has two buttons and a volume knob.

*Press the top button to cycle through the High-pass filter options: 75Hz/150Hz/Off<br/>
*Hold this button for three seconds to toggle the high-frequency boost.

*Press the bottom button to cycle through the recording options: -20dB Pad/Safety Channel/Pad + Safety/None<br/>
*Hold this button for three seconds to power the microphone on/off

The volume knob on the bottom controls the headphone output volume, not the microphone volume!
